Frequently Asked Questions

Know your Tea Better

What is Second Flush?

Second Flush is the second harvest of the year. In Darjeeling, the Second Flush teas are harvested at the onset of Summer. Plucked during the peak in months of May and June, Second Flush teas are renowned for their full-bodied and crimson-golden cups, with a mellow sweetness and distinct fruity flavours.

What makes Second Flush teas highly-prized around the world?

Second Flush teas from Darjeeling are highly sought after by connoisseurs for their signature fruity flavours and rich cups. It is also during the Second Flush that the elusive and exclusive MUSCATEL teas are produced at select tea estates for a short period of about two weeks.

What is so special about Single Estate?

Unlike most tea blends that contain teas from from multiple estates, Single Estate teas are sourced only from one particular estate, and generally from one particular section of the estate of either China or Clonal bushes. Also, most Single Estate teas are from a specific season - First, Second or Autumn Flush. VAHDAM® India's Single Estate teas also mention Invoice No. and Date of Plucking of the teas - identifying the exact lot that is available only with VAHDAM® India and no one else!

Are these really from the famous Darjeeling tea-growing region?

Yes! All 100% pure Darjeeling teas come with the Tea Board of India's DARJEELING TEA logo. This logo is allowed only for 100% genuine and authentic Darjeeling teas and is a guarantee that you are buying certified Darjeeling tea.

How are the teas packaged?

After sourcing our teas directly from plantations within hours of harvest, we bring them to our state-of-the-art tea facility in New Delhi, India. The teas then go through rigorous rounds of cleaning, sorting, quality testing to remove any impurities/dust/foreign particles. Post 10+ quality checkpoints for leaf size, aroma, liquor, flavors, etc., these are vacuum-packaged in opaque aluminum-lined bags using sophisticated machinery. These vacuum bags are then stored in a dehumidified, temperature-controlled warehouse which ensures that the teas remain garden-fresh and maintain their character. Further, required quantities are packed in smaller vacuum-sealed packs which are boxed in the retail boxes and then sent over to our own delivery centers located in various parts of the world.

Top Notch Assam

If you like Assam tea, this is one of the best. Flavorful and fragrant for an Assam (2nd flush/summer). Definitely staying on my shopping list.

Amazing Assam

This is the most delicious Assam I've ever tasted! From the minute you open the package you smell fresh. Neither dusty nor musty, the notes of this tea are special. And the taste is well blended. No bitterness.

My favorite Vahdam assam

I've tried every Vahdam assam. This is the one. Halmari Clonal has the perfect amount of astringency and maltiness. Chunkier, more solid flavor with a hint of sweetness and not overly grassy or sour.

My go to breakfast tea

This is my fav tea for my first cup of the day. I make it strong and add a touch of half and half. Vahdam is my only source of tea since 2015, when they started selling to the US.
